Quotes of the day

It is good to be home. I am grateful to be able to see my parents and relatives again. Some more inspiring quotes I found today...

"We must never forget that God's silences are not His rejections. They are preparation for a greater revelation of Him."

"God has not promised to rescue us according to our time schedule. If it appears that your prayers are unanswered, do not dishonor the Lord with unbelief. Waiting in faith is a high form of worship. In some respects, it excels the adoration of the shining ones above. God delivers His servants in ways that exercise their faith. He would not have them lacking in faith, for faith is the wealth of the heavenly life. He desires that the trial of faith continues until faith grows strong and comes to full assurance. The sycamore fig never ripens into sweetness unless it is bruised; the same is true of faith. Tested believer, God will bring you through, but do not expect Him to bring you through in the way that human reason suggests, for that would not develop your faith."

--Charles H. Spurgeon, Beside Still Waters (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1999), 148

"Christian, believe this, and think on it: thou shalt be externally embraced in the arms of that love which was from everlasting, and will extend to everlasting--of that love which brought the Son of God's love from heaven to earth, from earth to cross, from the cross, to the grave, from the grave to glory--that love which was weary, hungry, tempted, scorned, scourged, buffeted, spit upon, crucified, pierced,--which did fast, pray, teach, heal, weep, sweat, bleed, die; that love will eternally embrace thee."

--Richard Baxter, The Saints' Everlasting Rest (Ann Arbor, Mich.:Evangelical Press, 1978), 35

Quotes of the Day

Linda, a friend of Elizabeth Elliot, on one afternoon was stabbed many times by a stranger to unconsciousness. She finally recovered. Whenever she was told that God is good because He had spared Her life, she always answers "God is good whether I had lived or died."

"Though we can not see His pointing finger but we can trust His loving heart." A. Lim

Living in this world means living in vulnerability. We are not immune to strange bullets that fly in the air. Neither deadly pestilence nor some unthinkable evil. But, no matter what life may throw at us, God remains loving towards us. We must embrace life and rest in the knowledge that He loves us deeply and totally sovereign. May be His purpose can only be fulfilled when we walked through this path of suffering. They called it, Absolute Surrender.

What deep fulfillment and satisfaction to know our Lord! I pray that I may spend less of my time, taking pleasure on things that are temporal, eternally outdated, insignificant and meaningless. May I grow to put my total trust in the Almighty.

Come Home

Max Lucado tells a story about a young girl from Brazil
who wanted to see the world:

Discontent with a home having only a pallet on the floor
a washbasin, and a wood-burning stove
she dreamed of a better life in the city.
One morning she slipped away, breaking her mother’s heart.
Knowing what life on the streets would be like
for her young, attractive daughter,
Maria hurriedly packed to go find her.
On her way to the bus stop she entered a drugstore to get one last thing,
Pictures. She sat in the photograph booth, closed the curtain
and spent all she could on pictures of herself.
With her purse full of small black-and-white photos of herself,
she boarded the next bus to the city.

Maria knew Christina had no way of earning money.
She also knew that her daughter was too stubborn to give up.
When pride meets hunger, a human will do things
that were before unthinkable.
Knowing this, Maria began her search
in bars, hotels, and nightclubs, any place with a bad reputation.
She went to them all. And at each place she left her picture
taped on a bathroom mirror, tacked to a hotel bulletin board
fastened to a corner phone booth.
And, on the back of each photo she wrote a note.

It wasn’t too long before both the money and the pictures ran out
and Maria had to go home. The weary mother wept
as the bus began its long journey back to her small village.

It was a few weeks later that young Christina descended the hotel stairs
Her young face was tired.
Her brown eyes no longer danced with youth but spoke of pain and fear.
Her laughter was broken. Her dream had become a nightmare.
A thousand times over she had longed to trade these countless beds
for her secure pallet.
Yet the little village was, in too many ways, too far away...

As she reached the bottom of the stairs, her eyes noticed a familiar face.
She looked again, and there on the lobby mirror
was a small picture of her mother.

Christina’s eyes burned and her throat tightened.
As she walked across the room and removed the small photo.
Written on the back was this compelling invitation:

“Whatever you have done, whatever you have become,
it doesn’t matter. Please come home.”

She did.

The same with us today with God our Father
No matter what you’ve done or who you’ve become
it doesn’t matter, Jesus wants you to come home.

Confused & Sad, all at the same time

I had my first ever interview in Singapore. I mean...they were the ones that contacted me instead of me chasing them around. Actually the other two were positions in academia. But, I am in a confusion right now. The guy told me that working there is challenging, crisis time = stress time and long hours working. Also, asked me whether I am a christian. He said he goes to church because family all go there. But he is not religious. When he had to miss Sunday service, he does it. Sigh...I told him which church did I go and what denomination. Friends...I am scared. I am scared of making a wrong decision that will sacrifice my relationship with God. If my boss said something like that it would have mean something significant. I was very honest to him, I do not know whether he appreciates that or not. Even my dad thought some of what I said was not tactful enough. He (boss) seems very cool about it. But, I feel very sad. I feel very sad that He chose to attend his work/career life more than God. At the same time, I was putting myself in his shoes, I fear if in the next five years I will turn to be the same person like him. God forbid...oh God forbid. I feel very weak right now. I couldn't sleep at all last night, can not wait to see my "future" boss this morning. I know...I am silly but that's me. Another thing, he requires me to work 5.5 days which I have no problem but it looks like they are in need of some more commitment. Working hours is pretty good 9 am - 6.15 pm I don't mind. But, the place is blimmin far away from my home. At least an hour on the road to go there. God please honor me, honor my honesty. He also mentioned about working long hours thing...the fact that some people believe work life balance (which I firmly do , but I didn't say a thing) or just work. Guys, I know it is biblical calling to work but not working all the time. I work to live not live to work. Anyways, he seems quite positive about me and is going to be in touch with me soon to get me into his plant and get some training. The point is if I am a fast learner and get along with the HACCP trainer, chances are I will be hired. May be now is the time to get over this and leave the rest to God. My boss seems kind and patient...poor guy. I am missing New Zealand...how people truly can have work life balance. Adding to my confusion, NZ is amongst countries with the highest suicidal rates in the world, after Japan. Hmmm. Haiyah. dodol.

Quote of the Day

"One of the mark of a matured leader is the ability to say “No” without having to give a reason."

-Andrew Lim

With all my heart and strength, I want to live up this quote!
I suffered for my indecisiveness and being a crowd-pleaser. I went into every different directions, people told me to go. I lost focus on what God wants me to do. I will not allow that happen again in me! Not ever again! God with me. Priority! Priority! There is always good christian things to do out there. There will be always. For we are not at that end of Heaven yet. The burden God placed in your heart will be focused, never never beyond what you can bear. And I, Lilis will only live doing what God calls her to do. I will wait, I will wait until I am sure because The Mighty God in Heaven leads His people. There will always be people who do not understand why you say "No" but that is not your problem.

Samuel Raozen

Friends,

We are praying for a baby in our church, Samuel Raozen. He was born in Bandung. He is such a cute baby, look at those chubby cheeks... poor thing. It might be because of water retention that cause his whole body to swell. He contracted Hepatic Hemangioendothelioma. A blood vessel tumor, rare disease. His liver had grown into adult size and hence put his tiny little heart into extra work. Besides liver and heart problems, he is also suffering from hypothyroidism which means his growth will be suppressed. All the growth hormones are absorbed by the nasty tumor. He was also once resuscitated. His parents is going through financial difficulties at the moment. Please help! we are far more healthy than little Sam. You can help by praying and giving, please visit:

http://babysamuel-richardraozen.blogspot.com

Thank you :).

Lord, I am two people

I am two people,
and one is filled with longing to serve thee utterly
and one is afraid, O Lord, have compassion upon me

I am two people,
and one will labor to the end
and one is weary already, O Lord, have compassion upon me

I am two people,
and one knows the suffering of the world
and one knows only my own, O Lord have compassion upon me

And may the Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ
Fill my heart and the hearts of all people everywhere

Amen.

God's greatness humbles us

In 1996, a minister by the name of Joe Wright was asked to pray before the House of the Kansas Legislature. Everyone was expecting the usual kind of a soft-peddled prayer one that neither inspires nor rattles anyone. But what they heard shocked them and the reaction was swift:
- one legislator walked out during the prayer in protest
- in the weeks that followed thousands responded favorably to the prayer

This is the prayer of Joe Wright:

“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness
and to seek Your direction and guidance.
We know Your Word says ’Woe to those who call evil good,’
but that is exactly what we have done.
We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.
We confess that.
We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it pluralism.
We have worshiped other gods and called it multiculturalism.
We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children & called it building self-esteem.
We have abused power and called it politics.
We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography
and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers
and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today
cleanse us from every sin and set us free.

Guide and bless these men and women
who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will.
I ask it in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen"

The Big Story

The Big Story part 2

This is an attempt by James Choung to explain the message of christian faith in this postmodern world. InterVarsity had done a field test on it. So, how do we do it? we explain The Big Story first and then expect answers. The Big Story Part 2 is to respond back to the answers given. Let me know what you think about it. :) May the Lord bless you richly. Share your treasure. A friend might be in need of Him.

Verse of the day

I am grateful to have found this verse :). Very timely.

"When I lie down, I will not be afraid
When I lie down, my sleep will be sweet
Have no fear of sudden disasters, or of ruin that overtakes the wicked
For the Lord will be your confidence, He will keep your feet from being snared."

Refleksi

Saya gagal, Tuhan! Saya telah gagal! Tolong saya. Saya mau berkomitmen, ini hidup saya buat Tuhan. Let Thy will be done in my life. Let Thy will be done. If I am still on the stirring wheel, Here! take it back. Mereka yang percaya akan namaMu akan menjadi kuat. Mereka yang percaya akan namaMu akan menjadi berani, berani bagiMu.

In need

Fail, fail, thou have faileth!
If thou think thou hath trusted Him with all thy heart
Fail, fail, thou have faileth!
If thou think thou hath surrendered thy will to Him
Fail, fail, thou have faileth!
If thou think thou hath worshiped God

Thou need Jesus
Thou need Jesus
Thou need Jesus.

Autumn

Autumn was it when we first met
Autumn is it what I can't forget

Autumn have made me alive
because in Autumn you entered my life

In Autumn you came like a summer breeze
I didn't realize what it is

In Autumn I fell in love at first sight
I knew that everything was alright

In Autumn there was that special dance
I knew our love will not have a chance

In Autumn I was under your spell
Autumn - a secret I will never tell

In Autumn you showed me pride
I wish I had never left your side

In Autumn miracles came true
everything I was longing for was you

That Autumn changed my life in many ways
I will never forget those special days
